Settlement depends on knowing how much material was delivered and what quality it has. If the recorded weight, representative sample or moisture result is wrong, the payable quantity or value may also be wrong. Independent supervision helps identify problems while the operation is taking place and provides a clear record if the results are questioned later.
Especta's Role in WSMD Supervision
Especta follows the agreed WSMD procedure from material receipt and weighing through sampling, moisture determination and, where applicable, sample preparation and final sample distribution. Our surveyors are present at the relevant stages to supervise the operation, independently verify key results and maintain a clear record of the determinations made.
Receipt and Weighing
Material identification and weighing operations are supervised, with recorded weights checked against the observed operation and available documentation.
Sampling
Sampling procedures and increment collection are supervised to verify that the agreed sampling procedure is followed and that representative samples are obtained.
Moisture Determination
Moisture determination is supervised and the recorded results are independently checked, including recalculation of the corresponding dry weights where applicable.
Sample Preparation and Mass Balance
When included in the agreed scope, Especta supervises sample reduction and preparation and verifies the related mass-balance calculations.
Final Samples and Custody
Final samples are checked for identification, sealing and distribution, with relevant custody transfers recorded.
Verification and Reporting
Key figures, calculations, observations and any deviations identified during the supervised process are documented in the final survey report.
